The fields, without the guesses

An operating-hours block is one of the first things anyone looks for, and one of the easiest to get wrong on someone else's behalf. The panel beside this is the exact shape of one — every field the Society would fill in, and not one value we made up.

Always check before you drive. Storms, road conditions and staffing can close a community hill at short notice. The Society is the only source worth trusting on the day — reach it at info@mountcain.com.

What is up there is the Society's to say

Most ski-hill sites open this section with a lodge photo and a list of amenities. We have deliberately not done that, and we have dropped the stock lodge and snow-school photos we would otherwise have used — a placeholder picture of a building is still a claim that the building exists.

Before you drive up

  • Ask, do not assume

    Opening days, hours and conditions are not published on the Society's site. One email to info@mountcain.com beats a long drive on a hunch.

  • Confirm the pass season

    If you are buying a season pass, ask which winter the published prices cover. That is the one question this whole concept exists to make unnecessary.

  • Dress for the coast

    North Island winter weather is maritime — wet, heavy and changeable. Whatever the hill is doing that day, waterproof layers are never the wrong call.
